Junior League of Bakersfield Enabling Funds

Funding Alert 2010

The Junior League of Bakersfield (JLB) is requesting Enabling Fund proposal applications from community organizations for the purpose of improving the welfare of children in Bakersfield and Kern County.  Agencies that successfully complete the Enabling Fund application and meet the criteria will be considered for receiving available funds. Enabling Funds are one-year grants. Organizations applying for funds may use a variety of strategies and activities that will be consistent with the JLB mission and focus area. “The mission of the Junior League of Bakersfield is: an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.  Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.” Our focus area: Child Welfare

The Junior League of Bakersfield actively supports projects in the area of Child Welfare. The following guidelines apply:

• We believe all children are entitled to a life free from abuse and neglect.
• We support coordinated efforts with other agencies.
• We support education programs for children and their families.
• We support family involvement in these efforts.

The deadline for submitting applications is Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at 5:00 p.m.

Enabling Funds Information

GENERAL INFORMATION

1. Grants for Enabling Funds vary from year to year. 
2. An Enabling Fund is for non-profit programs that provide service to the community and are consistent with the purpose of the Junior League of Bakersfield (JLB).  JLB’s focus area is Child Welfare, which includes issues related to at-risk, abused and neglected children, child health, and education.
3. An Enabling Fund may be granted only once to an agency for the same purpose.
4. An Enabling Fund may be used to purchase equipment.

PROCEDURE

1. Enabling Fund proposals must be submitted to the Junior League of Bakersfield office by November 30, 2010 at 5:00pm.  No applications will be accepted after this date.
2. Proposals are screened and evaluated by the JLB Projects Evaluation Committee.  Recommendations for expenditures are made to the Board of Directors and General Membership for a final vote of approval.
3. Each Enabling Fund recipient will sign a Letter of Agreement regarding the use of funds.
4. Enabling Fund monies will be awarded at the September 2011 JLB General Meeting.
5. Recipients will submit a status report to JLB within three months of receipt of funds.
6. A final summary of the program will be submitted to the PEC Chair.
