GAP: Girls Achievement Program

GAPwebpic: Girls' Achievement Program (G.A.P.) helps foster girls ages 13-18 develop life skills that support successful emancipation.

Initiated in 2009, G.A.P. meets twice a month, September-April at the Junior League of Bakersfield's Community Center in downtown Bakersfield. Designed to be dynamic and engaging, the twice-monthly seminars will focus on topics including personal expression through art, exercise and healthy living, nutrition and wellness, building healthy relationships and self-esteem, college and career exploration, conflict resolution, etiquette and parenting.

Katie Kirschenmann, Junior League member and past chair of the G.A.P. project described the project saying, “JLB’s GAP program provides a safe and healthy environment for Foster Girls in Kern County, where each individual girl is encouraged to discover new and healthy outlets for positive self-expression and personal growth.”

Through G.A.P., the Junior League of Bakersfield is committed to helping foster girls in the community develop their potential, succeed and thrive. The Junior League of Bakersfield is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism and to improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. It has been a vital part of Kern County for over 50 years.
