Grants

The Junior League of Bakersfield (JLB) Enabling and Project grants are awarded to non-profit community organizations for the purpose of improving the welfare of women and children in Kern County.  Organizations applying for funds may use a variety of strategies and activities that are consistent with the JLB mission and focus area.

MISSION: The Junior League of Bakersfield is an organization of women whose mission is to advance women's leadership for meaningful community impact through volunteer action, collaboration, and training.

Focus Area: In 2020, the Junior League of Bakersfield formally adopted “Literacy” as its community impact issue/focus and all grant applications should align with this focus. Specifically, we are dedicated to improving literacy rates in Kern County.

Project Grants:

  • Are defined programs that enrich, train, educate, or enhance the lives of women and/or children with the focus on “Literacy.” The defined program would target a specific goal and/or population and may also include the purchase of items that are a necessary component of the program. (Examples: literacy classes that include books, supplies for activities to enhance the program/project, etc.)

  • Are done in collaboration with Junior League of Bakersfield and use the Junior League members to implement the grant funded program.

  • Are issued in amounts up to $5,000.

  • Will be for the 2023-2024 grant year (June 1, 2023 to May 30, 2024).

  • Are renewable up to three years, if supported by JLB membership.

  • Funds cannot be used for any ongoing administrative expense, such as salaries, consultant fees, rent, or utilities.

Only Project grant applications will be considered for funding. The due date for all applications is Tuesday, February 28th, 2023 at 5:00 pm (PST).

Completed applications are to be emailed to the Junior League of Bakersfield to administrative@jlbakersfield.org
