Grants

Every year, the Junior League of Bakersfield (JLB) gives out up to $5,000 each to various Kern County non-profits in the form of Enabling and Project grants.  Project and Enabling Fund Grants are awarded to non-profit community organizations for the purpose of improving the welfare of women and children in Kern County.  Organizations applying for funds may use a variety of strategies and activities that are consistent with the JLB mission and focus area.  The Junior League of Bakersfield actively supports programs in the area of women and child welfare. 

NOTE: At this time, we are not accepting applications.  Please check back in the future for the dates of our next application cycle.  Feel free to look at prior years' applications for additional information.

Enabling Grants:

  • Are issued in amounts up to $5,000.

  • Are for specific functions within the non-profit.  (e.g. safety equipment, materials, books, tools, tuition,etc.)  It does not include administrative salaries, rent, utilities, or general funds.

  • Are not renewable for subsequent years for the same purpose.

  • Must be spent within a calendar year.  Mid- and end of year update reports are required. 

Project Grants:

  • Are defined programs that enrich, train, educate, or enhance the lives of women and/or children.  The defined program would target a specific goal and/or population and may also include the purchase of items that are a necessary component of the program. (Examples: healthy eating classes that include food preparation; job skills and interview training classes; etc.)

  • Are done in collaboration with Junior League of Bakersfield.

  • Are an ongoing project, with the use of Junior League volunteers.

  • Can be greater than $5,000.

  • Are renewable up to three years, if supported by JLB membership.

  • Funds cannot be used for any ongoing administrative expense, such as salaries, consultant fees, rent, or utilities.

Completed applications are to be emailed, postmarked, or dropped off at the Junior League Office, 1928 19th Street, Bakersfield, CA 93301 by the deadline.  Office hours are 1:30 pm to 5:00 pm, Tuesday through Friday.
